Greetings Tenth District Legionnaires!
Another Spring Conference is behind us. It was better attended than others in recent history,
especially the Banquet and a great success with many compliments and no complaints! We owe Post 77 a huge thank you for hosting and for all the hard work they put into planning a great Conference. We had Department Adjutant Nikolai speak and along with her was Mr. Jolly, a Marine Corps veteran of The Battle of The Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War. If that wasn't inspiring enough, Gold Star Mother Kaye Olson was the speaker at the banquet Saturday. Her talk was also quite inspirational and reminded us of why we do what we do as Legionnaires. It was an interesting perspective too, in that we often remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, but we tend to forget their families and the heartache they endure never ends with the loss of their loved ones. On hand too was a representative from the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs to speak and answer questions. Department Commander Clewell also made a visit as well as several candidates seeking election to Department Offices. The weekend culminated with our Memorial Service for our departed comrades and then a well-attended Post Commanders class. Congratulations to those who took the class, knowledge truly is power! We now move on to finish up our Membership year, plan for Department Convention and National Convention. The best is yet to come as they say! I cannot tell you how proud I am to be commander of The Mighty Tenth District! It is a true honor and I have said repeatedly, I have been blessed to be supported and surrounded with the very best District Officers in The Department of Wisconsin. And of course, each Post I visit has the common thread of serving and supporting the Four Pillars of our proud organization, Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth. I thank each Post and each Legionnaire for all you do! And, I hope as we remember the fallen and their families this Memorial Day, the summer season kicks off and is safe and enjoyable for you, your families and friends! Semper Fidelis, Paul Beseler Commander - Tenth District The American Legion Department of Wisconsin
